چکیده

The survivability or resilience of a network refers to network performance during abnormal operating modes. Network design for survivability is usually constrained by cost. For mobile networks an overriding constraint is the limit placed on radio-level capacity by a regulated frequency spectrum. We propose a load-sharing cell-site architecture and a novel load-based channel allocation scheme which increases radio-level resilience by providing backup radio paths. Our simulations illustrate that our scheme does not reduce system capacity during normal operating modes and results in superior system performance by adapting to spatial and temporal fluctuations in user demand occurring during degraded or failed modes. We compare our results to two reference schemes: fixed channel allocation for a non-overlapping architecture and directed retry for the proposed load-sharing architecture.

General Constructions of Rational Secret Sharing with Expected Constant-Round Reconstruction

We present a general construction of a rational secret-sharing protocol that converts any rational secret-sharing protocol to a protocol with an expected constant-round reconstruction. Our construction can be applied to protocols for synchronous channels, and preserves a strict Nash equilibrium of the original protocol. Combining with an existing protocol, we obtain the first expected constant-...

Enhancing the Resilience of Networked Agents through Risk Sharing

Since social-economic systems increase interdependency, a crucial question arises: Is an interconnected world a safer or a more dangerous place in which to live? Over the last few years, we have witnessed the dark side of increasing interdependencies. As such, there is a growing need to focus on how to mitigate networked risk and to enhance the system resilience to the impact of a large-scale s...

A Decentralized and Efficient Algorithm for Load Sharing in Networks of Workstations

This paper presents the design and evaluation of a decentralized load sharing algorithm for networks of workstations, RADIO. With respect to general distributed computing environments, networks of workstations have some peculiarities. First, the global computing power is most of the time much underutilized. Second, users of workstations need occasionally a peek of computing power. Third, workst...

Avoiding Spectral Congestion: An Enhanced Cognitive Radio Approach

Currently, cognitive radio solves the problem of spectral congestion by load sharing wireless traffic across different licensed spectrum bands. However, it is thought that a more powerful approach would be to load share the traffic across both fixed and wireless access networks. It is thought that such an approach will be able to prevent spectral congestion for the foreseeable future for a sign...

Voltage Control and Load Sharing in a DC Islanded Microgrid Based on Disturbance Observer

Increasing DC loads along with DC nature of distributed energy resources (DERs) raises interest to DC microgrids. Conventional droop/non-droop power-sharing in microgrids suffers from load dependent voltage deviation, slow transient response, and requires the parameters of the loads, system and DERs connection status. In this paper, a new nonlinear decentralized back-stepping control strategy f...
